What transforms biodiversity research into lasting change?

The first GCBC Biodiversity Briefing – From Evidence to Engagement – showed that impactful science depends not only on robust evidence, but also on trust, collaboration, and recognising communities as knowledge partners.

• Bringing together researchers, practitioners, and policy stakeholders from across the GCBC network, the briefing showcased two GCBC-funded projects in Ethiopia and Cambodia, led by Dr Aster Gebrekirstos (ICRAF) and Dr Emiel de Lange (Wildlife Conservation Society).
• The discussion, moderated by Professor Elizabeth Cottier-Cook (Scottish Association for Marine Science), also drew on insights from the Global Seaweed SUPERSTAR project in Malaysia and Indonesia.

Together, the speakers demonstrated how Living Labs, Indigenous and local knowledge, and locally led research are informing policy, strengthening biodiversity conservation, and supporting climate-resilient livelihoods.

A recurring message emerged throughout the session: the most effective solutions are co-created.
