Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate E-Platform and Website Privacy Notice

The Global Centre on Biodiversity for Climate (GCBC) is an international research and development programme that funds research into natural solutions to climate change and poverty. Through a series of research calls the GCBC will establish a global network of research institutions and experts to address critical research gaps in how the conservation and sustainable use of biodiversity can address climate solutions and improve livelihoods.

The GCBC will be delivered through a partnership of Defra, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew as the Strategic Science Lead, and DAI Global as the Fund Manager.

Defra collects your:

  • Contact details
  • CVs (excluding special category data)
  • Sex
  • Age range
  • Address
  • Rural Urban Classification
  • Organisation name
  • IP Addresses

This personal data will be collected as part of the registration requirement for the research grant competition application process, and within the GCBC’s monitoring, evaluation and learning process, to report against the International Climate Finance Key Performance Indicators and inform the GCBC’s development.

Personal data will be collected on this e-tendering platform as part of the application process, and for successful bids. The personal data may be transferred to the e-management platform to aid the management of the programme. The GCBC website will publicise, and present research developed through our programming, any personal data used within this process will be anonymised prior to making it publicly available.

Defra will share the personal data collected under this privacy notice with:

  • DAI Global UK – GCBC Fund Manager and processors of the data.
  • Royal Botanic Gardens Kew – GCBC Strategic Science Lead and will be assessing the research.

Defra respects your personal privacy when responding to access to information requests. We only share information when necessary to meet the statutory requirements of the Environmental Information Regulations 2004 and the Freedom of Information Act 2000.

 

How long Defra holds personal data

Defra will keep your personal data for up to 3 years after the end of the GCBC. Data that has been made anonymous may be kept for longer. Personal data may be deleted earlier if no longer needed.

 

What happens if you do not provide the personal data

If you do not provide the personal data, you will not be able to apply to receive GCBC grant funding.

 

Transfer of your personal data outside of the UK

Defra will only transfer your personal data to another country that is deemed adequate for data protection purposes.
